The Nigerian artist Guchi, whose hit “Jennifer” had gone viral, revealed that she supported her family by working at an ice cream parlour.
“The most significant achievement came from my least expensive video,” Guchi says as she commemorates an unprecedented milestone.
Chude Jideonwo revealed in a conversation that she received a lot of support from her boss after he overheard her singing on the job.
“I have experience working in the ice cream industry. Sitting down and declaring, “I love music,” and then waiting for Don Jazzy to sign me at my house was not something I was keen on doing.
“I was responsible for providing food for my mother and siblings,” she said.
The singer says, “This particular day, I was at the back, singing and preparing the ice cream so I could pour it inside the machine.”
“Then my boss came in and asked who was singing, and they all screamed Guchi. That moment marked a turning point in her life.”
After saying, “I admire your courage,” he slipped his hand inside his pocket. “I was expecting a tip that I could use to get home that day, but instead he pulled out a card. I was deeply let down. That was my destined ally, and I had no idea.”
