Actress Yvonne Jegede: If I had known, I’d have married for money, not love. I ditched my ex-husband because I was bringing in more of the money from the marriage.

Yvonne Jegede, a Nollywood actress, reveals that she left her marriage because she was making a greater financial contribution than her ex-husband, despite the fact that they were married.

In 2019, Jegede announced that her marriage to actor Olakunle ‘Abounce’ Fawole had ended in divorce, only a few months after they had tied the knot. Bana Africa recalls having an interview with the actress a few years ago.

It was in the preview for the forthcoming edition of the podcast titled “The Honest Bunch” that the actress expressed her remorse that she had chosen love before money.

As a contributing factor in the dissolution of their marriage, she said that her ex-husband’s tendency to see every joke as an act of contempt was due to the fact that he was older than she was.

Her statement was as follows: “He [my ex-husband] is eight years older than I am.”

“However, as soon as we were married, if I were to make a comment like, “You dey crease,” he would accuse me of showing disrespect to him.”

“You could say that if it were the same person I married, I would have the same reaction.

“But that wasn’t the main reason why I abandoned the marriage.”

“I would like to clarify that my primary reason for abandoning the marriage was to increase my income. Taking care of my child makes it seem as though no one else is around me. It is never simple. It is more likely that I would have gone for money than for love.
